NWS radiofax charts for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, Tropical Atlantic, and Tropical East Pacific

The latest version of marine weather charts for broadcast by the U.S. Coast Guard are available from the National Weather Service Telecommunication Gateway on this server. The listed charts are in the G4 (T4) format and enveloped in TIFF for viewing, also available in GIF format. Satellite images are in JPEG format.

Change In New Orleans Radiofacsimile Broadcast Frequencies - To provide more reliable coverage in the Gulf of Mexico, beginning December 05, 2003 the broadcast of radiofacsimile from U.S. Coast Guard New Orleans station NMG, will be changed from broadcasting on center frequencies of 4317.9, 8503.9 and 12789.9 kHz at 0000 and 0600 UTC, and 8503.9, 12789.9 and 17146.4 kHz at 1200 and 1800 UTC to: broadcasting on 4317.9, 8503.9 and 12789.9 kHz at 0000, 0600, 1200 and 1800 UTC, and 17146.4 kHz at 1200 and 1800 UTC. Subtract 1.9 kHz for carrier frequencies. Please send any reception reports and user comments to marine.weather@noaa.gov.

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and National Weather Service (NWS) have determined that the cause of high levels of noise on the New Orleans radiofax broadcast is the result of poor line quality in the dedicated long line telephone circuits that interconnect the NWS's radiofax hardware to the USCG's transmitters. The USCG and NWS are working actively to resolve this situation.

Reports from mariners of both poor AND good radio reception , as well as any other comments about weather broadcast services and forecast products are always greatly appreciated. Please be specific as possible noting your location, equipment/software used, date(s), time(s), frequency(s), mode (fax, voice, NAVTEX, etc.), signal strength, and problem observed (e.g. interference, noise, sync loss, echoes, etc), product name ( e.g. high seas text forecast for METAREA IV, if internet state link, etc. ). Send your comments to marine.weather@noaa.gov.
